First – a one minute video. Watch it carefully. We promise you it’ll be worth it.
That was fun, wasn’t it?
It was fun because you didn’t just see shapes moving around in a blank background. You saw a story! You saw characters (with emotions and agendas), conflict, plot, and resolution. But that is far from the truth. You, along with Heider and Simmel’s test subjects, didn’t “see” a story that was already made. Instead, you “CREATED” one on your own.
You constructed your own meaning from geometric shapes bouncing around on a screen. There are just geometric drawings moving around. But we don’t see them that way at all. We see an angry shape, a jealous shape, an abusive and destructive shape.
When in reality, it’s just geometric shapes. So what happened here? We interpret our world, our reality – with context! This means PURE data will always be forgotten – provided it is put down in terms of a story!
Data is always forgotten, and stories are always remembered!
Second, when we are decrypting data – certain parts of our brain get activated. But, when we articulate and elaborate the data in the form of the story, other areas of our brain get activated which puts us at the center of the action.
Data simply informs us. But stories invite us to action.
